20-yr-old caught for selling baby for 20k

A 20-year-old school drop out, Maria Ekanem, has been arrested in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, for allegedly selling her new born baby for N20,000, reports Vanguard.

The lady who is from Odukpani Local Government Area in the state, told the police that poverty pushed her into committing the act as she could not fend for herself and the baby after the man who got her pregnant abandoned her after telling her to abort the baby and she refused.
Ekanem who was paraded at the State Police Headquarters alongside other accomplices including a medical doctor, Dr Okokon Offiong Okoho, who fed her and gave her free ante-natal care when she was pregnant.
It turned out that the 55-year-old doctor who is the proprietor of Evangel Clinic, was only nurturing the pregnancy to the due date so that he could sell off the baby to Abuja based lady who is now on the run, a matron with Sadatoe Maternity, also in the state capital.
