  Fourteen orangutans smuggled into Thailand illegally were sent back to Indonesia on Thursday, but the operation was not without incident -- one of the powerful apes tore a wildlife officer's finger off when he tried to put them in cages. Twelve of the orangutans were smuggled into Thailand as babies and rescued seven years ago by police and sent to a wildlife breeding center in Ratchaburi , 80 kms (50 miles) west of Bangkok . Two of the great apes were born at the centre.

  The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) announced the arrest of two drug traffickers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. According to Punch Newspapers, Michael Okwuma and Chidiebere Nwajagu flew into the country with the drugs from Brazil. Speaking to newsmen, one of the drug peddlers, Okwuma, said “I live in Sao Paulo with my wife and child. I work in a supermarket but my salary is not sufficient to take care of my family. The man that gave me the drugs is like a father to me.

Thursday, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, became one of the hospitals in Nigeria that offers kidney transplant services following a successful kidney transplant on a 56-year- old man in Lagos. The life-saving procedure which took two and half hours was the first of its in LASUTH. The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Wale Oke, said the successful kidney transplant was part of the state government’s promises to deliver excellent healthcare services to the people of Lagos State. He added that several consultations were made before the surgery to make sure that the patients were well selected to avoid complications after the exercise.

A 25-year-old mother of four, Nkechi Obi, who tried to sell a one-week-old baby boy, who was stolen in Onitsha, Anambra State, to a barren woman in Lagos, has been arrested. The suspect, who claimed to be a farmer and an apprentice in Onitsha, said she was on her way to hand over the baby to the buyer at Cele Bus Stop, along the Oshodi/Apapa Express-way, when she was arrested. It was gathered that the baby was stolen from his biological mother, who ran away from home when she found out she was pregnant.

Gov Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday said that his administration was committed to faithfully addressing traffic congestion and improving public transportation in the state. He commended the officials of the transport authority for their dedication to duty.   A leading health technology company, Royal Phillips , on Thursday said its Children’s Automated Respiration Monitor device, designed to tackle dreaded disease, Pneumonia , would be made available to the public soon. This is contained in a statement by the company on Thursday to in Lagos to commemorate with the World Pneumonia Day. The statement said the device aimed at improving diagnosis in the treatment of pneumonia in low resistant countries. According to the statement, when effectively used, the device was capable of preventing many of the 935,000 childhood deaths caused by pneumonia each year.

  The Comptroller General of Customs, Retired Col. Hameed Ali , on Thursday warned smugglers operating in the country to change business or face the wrath of the law. Ali gave the warning at a meeting with traders and other stakeholders in Kano . " Smuggling is one of the dangerous activities which affect the nation’s economy, so, smugglers should change business because it is an illegal business, ’’ he said. According to him, there is the need for people, especially those who have the impression that smuggling is a legal source of livelihood, to have a change of mind.

New Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi says he does not want to go to jail and so will not be stealing from the accounts of the ministry. Amaechi said this while speaking to members of the ministry after his swearing-in as Minister yesterday November 11th. “I am not as bad as people from the outside say I am. I only engage based on principles. I neither take nor give bribes. If you want to relate with me, don’t give me money. I will also not give you money. I don’t want to go to jail so I won’t steal. At least 25 people were on Wednesday, November 12, killed in a Boko Haram attack in a village in southern Niger. According to Niger military officials, 20 of the dead are Boko Haram militants who were killed in subsequent clashes with the army. The terrorist group killed five civilians in their initial attack on the village located in the West African nation's Bosso district.

Three Fulani men were, yesterday, paraded along with other suspects for armed robbery by the Oyo State Police command. The suspects (names withheld) were alleged to have been involved in series of robbery operations at Ajebamidele-Atogun road in Oyo State.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has congratulated former Governor of the State & his predecessor, Kayode Fayemi over his appointment as Solid Mineral Minister, urging him to use his position for the commercial exploitation of the abundant solid mineral resources in his homestate, Ekiti.   A middle-aged man, identified as Papa Ogada, has dumped his 14-year-old son in a well, accusing him of being behind his inability to make progress in life. Mark Jeansonne, an attorney for Chris Few, who was seriously injured when local marshals in the town of Marksville opened fire. His 6-year-old, Jeremy Mardis, was killed in the car. Jeremy was shot  6 times. 5 times in the head and 1 time in the chest by the cops. His dad was shot several times. There were 18 shots aimed at the car Few was driving.

  Barely 24 hours after one Chindo Bello, a wanted suspected Boko Haram member was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Nigerian military says it has arrested another wanted Boko Haram suspect. A statement by the Nigeria Army spokesperson, Col. Sani Usman, says that the wanted suspected terrorist, Ishaku Wardifen, was arrested by vigilant troops of 23 Brigade Special Battalion at a check point in Maiha, Adamawa State this morning.

  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has imposed a fine of N4 billion on Skye Bank Plc for failing to render appropriate returns on accounts of some government institutions and agencies. This is contained in a statement by Skye Bank to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

  Reports say half naked female staff of Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN), Ibadan, have staged a protest, demanding for the removal of the Executive Director, Professor Malachy O. Akoroda. The female staff are accusing Akoroda of corruption and high handedness. A petition signed by the Baale of Odo Onanla, Chief Yekeen Ogunyode, reads "Letters have been sent to the President Federal Republic of Nigeria and Federal House of Representatives regarding the lingering crisis in CRIN. In addition numerous petitions have been sent to the ICPC, the EFCC, the Auditor General, and Accountant General of the Federation concerning the mismanagement of funds through white elephant projects at the expense of research by Professor Akoroda.

Members of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of Lagos State Police Command, have arrested three suspected robbers who specialize in attacking motorists trapped in traffic around the Ikoyi area of Lagos state.   Reports say a Boko Haram kingpin, on the wanted list of the Nigerian Army, Chindo Bello, was nabbed by security agents, at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja. Vanguard Newspapers reports that Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, the  Acting Director Army Public Relations, said Bello was arrested, while trying to board an Aero Contractors’ flight, en-route Lagos.

  Following the declaration of Hajiya Aisha Alhassan as the winner of the April 11 gubernatorial election in Taraba State, about six persons have been reported dead. According to a report by Daily Trust, two of the individuals that lost their lives are two boys, who were allegedly killed when armed men suspected to be Jukun armed militia attacked residents in Wukari area of Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.

Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume has said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is in a coma state. Speaking in an interview with Leadership, Ndume mocked the political party saying the party's National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh , is the only 'nurse' left to revive the political party's comatose state as its doctors and pharmacist are nowhere to be found. “PDP is in a coma and only God knows when it will recover. As you can see now, they do not have any doctor or pharmacist and the only nurse is Olisa Metuh,” he had said.

  Tragedy struck on Saturday in Orisha Community, Magodo, Isheri area of Lagos State, after a mudslide hit a three-bedroomed apartment killing all the four children in the house.
