Turkey shoots down Russian warplane on Syrian border

Turkey has shot down a Russian warplane on the Syrian border, a senior Turkish official has said. According to Al Jazeerah, the plane was shut down on Syrian territory in Latakia's Yamadi village. The plane was downed by the Turkish military according to the rules of engagement because it violated Turkish airspace, the Turkish official said.

Brutality: Woman beaten to stupor by soldiers in Port Harcourt

  A Nigerian woman was reportedly set upon and brutalised seriously by some men of the Army early this morning in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State. 153 People Killed in SIX Terror Attacks in Paris

Terrorists struck six locations in Paris with gunfire and explosions, killing 153 people and seizing hostages in yet another massacre in France this year. The attacks occurred Friday night as residents and tourists reveled in bars and restaurants. Excited weekend chatter turned into panicked screams as terrorists opened fire at various sites. In Thailand Government returns 14 smuggled orangutans to Indonesia

  Fourteen orangutans smuggled into Thailand illegally were sent back to Indonesia on Thursday, but the operation was not without incident -- one of the powerful apes tore a wildlife officer's finger off when he tried to put them in cages. Twelve of the orangutans were smuggled into Thailand as babies and rescued seven years ago by police and sent to a wildlife breeding center in Ratchaburi , 80 kms (50 miles) west of Bangkok . Two of the great apes were born at the centre.

NDLEA discovers cocaine worth N59m in bottles of whisky

  The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) announced the arrest of two drug traffickers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. According to Punch Newspapers, Michael Okwuma and Chidiebere Nwajagu flew into the country with the drugs from Brazil. Speaking to newsmen, one of the drug peddlers, Okwuma, said “I live in Sao Paulo with my wife and child. I work in a supermarket but my salary is not sufficient to take care of my family. LASUTH Performs its First Kidney Transplant

Thursday, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, became one of the hospitals in Nigeria that offers kidney transplant services following a successful kidney transplant on a 56-year- old man in Lagos. The life-saving procedure which took two and half hours was the first of its in LASUTH. The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Wale Oke, said the successful kidney transplant was part of the state government’s promises to deliver excellent healthcare services to the people of Lagos State. He added that several consultations were made before the surgery to make sure that the patients were well selected to avoid complications after the exercise.

Woman arrested for trying to sell a one week old baby in Lagos

A 25-year-old mother of four, Nkechi Obi, who tried to sell a one-week-old baby boy, who was stolen in Onitsha, Anambra State, to a barren woman in Lagos, has been arrested. The suspect, who claimed to be a farmer and an apprentice in Onitsha, said she was on her way to hand over the baby to the buyer at Cele Bus Stop, along the Oshodi/Apapa Express-way, when she was arrested. It was gathered that the baby was stolen from his biological mother, who ran away from home when she found out she was pregnant.

Ambode Offers Solution to Traffic Problem

Gov Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday said that his administration was committed to faithfully addressing traffic congestion and improving public transportation in the state. He commended the officials of the transport authority for their dedication to duty. Amode said this at the official inauguration of the Mile 12 to Ikorodu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor constructed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

Philips Company introduces device to prevent deaths due to childhood pneumonia

  A leading health technology company, Royal Phillips , on Thursday said its Children’s Automated Respiration Monitor device, designed to tackle dreaded disease, Pneumonia , would be made available to the public soon. This is contained in a statement by the company on Thursday to in Lagos to commemorate with the World Pneumonia Day. The statement said the device aimed at improving diagnosis in the treatment of pneumonia in low resistant countries. According to the statement, when effectively used, the device was capable of preventing many of the 935,000 childhood deaths caused by pneumonia each year.

Customs Boss Goes Tough on Smugglers

  The Comptroller General of Customs, Retired Col. Hameed Ali , on Thursday warned smugglers operating in the country to change business or face the wrath of the law. Ali gave the warning at a meeting with traders and other stakeholders in Kano . New Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi says he does not want to go to jail and so will not be stealing from the accounts of the ministry. Amaechi said this while speaking to members of the ministry after his swearing-in as Minister yesterday November 11th. “I am not as bad as people from the outside say I am. I only engage based on principles. I neither take nor give bribes. If you want to relate with me, don’t give me money. I will also not give you money. I don’t want to go to jail so I won’t steal. 25 people killed in a Boko Haram raid in Niger

At least 25 people were on Wednesday, November 12, killed in a Boko Haram attack in a village in southern Niger. According to Niger military officials, 20 of the dead are Boko Haram militants who were killed in subsequent clashes with the army. The terrorist group killed five civilians in their initial attack on the village located in the West African nation's Bosso district.

Rabbit causes pandemonium at Rivers Secretariat

There was pandemonium, yesterday, at the Rivers State Secretariat following the mysterious appearance of a rabbit. It was discovered beneath a car belonging to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Otonyetarie Okoye. Fear sent some civil servants home before closing hours. One of the civil servants told Vanguard : “Some persons later summoned courage and went after it. Even policemen also joined in pursuit. 3-year-old boy shoots self in head and survives

When 3-year-old Darnal Mundy II grabbed a gun in his home and accidentally shot himself in the head, his parents thought he wouldn't survive. N5,000 stipend: Group to drag Buhari, APC to court

  A group, South East Progressives Assembly, SEPA, has threatened court action against President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruing All Progressives Congress, APC, over the inability of the Federal Government to commence the payment of the monthly Five Thousand Naira (N5,000 stipend) to unemployed Nigerian youths. President Buhari and his party, the APC had during their campaigns promised to drive its Change policy through certain programmes which include payment of N5, 000 monthly stipend to unemployed Nigerian youths.

  A middle-aged man, identified as Papa Ogada, has dumped his 14-year-old son in a well, accusing him of being behind his inability to make progress in life. Body camera footage shows the father of a 6-year-old autistic boy had his hands in the air and posed no threat when cops shot at their car last week, killing the boy and wounding the father, the man's lawyer said Monday. Mark Jeansonne, an attorney for Chris Few, who was seriously injured when local marshals in the town of Marksville opened fire. His 6-year-old, Jeremy Mardis, was killed in the car. Jeremy was shot  6 times. 5 times in the head and 1 time in the chest by the cops. His dad was shot several times. There were 18 shots aimed at the car Few was driving.

  Barely 24 hours after one Chindo Bello, a wanted suspected Boko Haram member was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Nigerian military says it has arrested another wanted Boko Haram suspect. A statement by the Nigeria Army spokesperson, Col. Sani Usman, says that the wanted suspected terrorist, Ishaku Wardifen, was arrested by vigilant troops of 23 Brigade Special Battalion at a check point in Maiha, Adamawa State this morning.

  Reports say half naked female staff of Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN), Ibadan, have staged a protest, demanding for the removal of the Executive Director, Professor Malachy O. Akoroda. The female staff are accusing Akoroda of corruption and high handedness. Fraud Allegation ‘Nobody is a Saint,’ Gabriel Suswam says

  The former Governor of Benue state has denied allegations of fraud levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Suswam, speaking at a special thanksgiving service organised for him at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Makurdi, said “The fact is that nobody is a saint, we have serious economic situation.
